While I liked this song enough to have always envisioned it on the final EP (one out of the 17 written, I may add), it was definitely my least favourite of the chosen ones. However, like it often is with these things, you can never really tell when magic will spring, and once the vocals were recorded it rose to be possibly the catchiest song of the lot—the perfect way to start the journey.
Much like (pretty much) every song written for the project, it was developed during a heavy time of turmoil in my life, this song in particular focusing on that type of friend we all have. You know, the one who steals all your money from you? And lies to your face about it? And gets away with it because of their vagina? Everyone has one of these friends, right??
lyrics
VERSE 1
Use your pretty face
Tell another lie
Your friends are a waterfall
Give ‘em love and suck ‘em dry
Each human is an opportunity
Each victim’s just another guy
And you sleep so easily
Other people’s money is your lullaby
CHORUS
But girl you should come with a warning
Don’t answer your phone anymore
Good nights lead to bad mornings
Girl you should come with a warning
Don’t answer your phone anymore
Good nights lead to bad mornings
VERSE 2
Wash away your bitter taste
Drug ticket for another night
Open your legs and open your purse
Never quite hurts like the first time
Your pussy is a hand grenade
Your thoughts believe their lies
That’s why you sleep so easily
When other people’s money is your pacifier
CHORUS
But girl you should come with a warning
Don’t answer your phone anymore
Good nights lead to bad mornings
Girl you should come with a warning
Don’t answer your phone anymore
Good nights lead to bad mornings
BRIDGE
And of course when the sun comes up you curse that last line and pray another day away
And what’s worse the next number comes up and a masochistic bit of your oesophagus picks up anyway
OUTRO CHORUS
Ah, but girl you should come with a warning
Don’t answer your phone anymore
Don’t answer your phhhhhh
But girl you should come with a warning
Don’t answer your phone anymore
Good nights lead to bad mornings
